Spilanthes paniculata

Spilanthes paniculata Wall. ex DC, commonly known as toothache plant, electric daisy, ting flowers, etc.  It lies in Asteraceae family. It is commonly found in boggy ground, margins of ponds, marshes and in rice fields. Leaves are opposite, petiolate, ovate-lanceolate. The flower heads are usually solitary at the tips of the stem branches.

The flower heads contain Spilanthol which reduces the pain associated with throat and gum infections and have a cooling sensation in the throat. The flowers are crushed and applied at the site of toothache. The leaves may be also used to treat bacterial and fungal skin diseases.
