Happy 18th National Rice Day

Today, the day where we Nepali celebrate our annual festival National Paddy Day called as "Rastriya Dhan Ropai Diwas". Nepal is the first country to celebrate Rice Day after the UN declared 2004 as the International Year of Rice. It is celebrated on 15th of Asadh of every year in Nepal according to Nepali calender.    People are busy in planting paddy seedlings. This special day is celebrated by planting paddy seedlings regarded as the start of paddy cultivation. Farmers gathered in their fields to plant paddy seedlings and relished curd and beaten rice deliacy. They splashed mud at each other and sang folk songs that glorified agriculture. This day is also known as "Dahi-cheura Day".    Girls are enjoying with mud water and paddy seedlings. According to scientific reason, it is good to eat Dahi-cheura on this special day because the body gets energy from this food. Classification: Kingdom: Plantae Clade: Angiosperms Clade: Rosids Order: Sapindales Family: Meliaceae Genus: Azadirachta Species: A. indica Description: Azadirachta indica, commonly known as Neem tree belongs to Meliaceae family.  It is a fast growing tree generally found in India, Nepal, Africa, South Asia, etc. It is commonly found in sandy, shallow and stony soil at an altitude of 500m- 1500m from sea level. Season of flowers differ from place to place. Generally, flowers starts from January to May and ripening time of fruits is from May to August. It is very similar to Chinaberry, (Melia azedarach). Morphological characters: Azadirachta indica is a medium sized, fast growing, evergreen tree up to 15-20m tall (sometimes 40m ) forming dense oval or rounded crown. Bark is grey or dark reddish. Leaves are pinnately compound, leaflets 8-19, alternate or opposite, ovate, serrate. Flowers are bisexual with white or yellow, small scented, numerous on a long axillary panicles (clusters)...

Bamboo shoots

Bamboos are a diverse group of evergreen perennial flowering plants in the family poaceae. It´s is estimated that there are upto 1500 species of bamboo worldwide. Some species like Bambusa vulgaris and Phyllostachys edulis are the common species used in cooking.The stem of the bamboos are usually hollow and have rhizomes which are undeground stems. Bamboo shoot/ bamboo sprouts are the edible shoots of bamboo. But before consuming, the shoots need their fibrous exterior cut away,  and then the shoot need to be boiled. When  eaten raw, bamboo contains a toxin that produces cyanide in the gut. They are highly nutritious and contain a good amount of fiber, copper and vitamins B6 and E. It is used as an important health food as they contain high proteins, ammino acids, carbohydrates, many important minerals, and vitamins. Azalea species

Azalea is a flowering shrub in the genus Rhododendron primarily native to Japan. Some small-leaved rhododendrons look like evergreen Azaleas. Mostly Azaleas have 5/6 stamens, while most rhododendrons have 10 stamens. It lies in Ericaceae family. Scales are absence in Azaleas while small-leaves rhododendron leaves are covered with scales. Over 10,000 Azaleas, plants have been registered. They have a wide variety of habits, sizes, color and blooming time. Azalea is treated as analgesic, anaesthetic and sedative. The flower symbolizes love and gentleness making it perfect to give to a loved one for any occasion. It is a symbol of elegance and love.
