Azalea species

Azalea is a flowering shrub in the genus Rhododendron primarily native to Japan. Some small-leaved rhododendrons look like evergreen Azaleas. Mostly Azaleas have 5/6 stamens, while most rhododendrons have 10 stamens. It lies in Ericaceae family. Scales are absence in Azaleas while small-leaves rhododendron leaves are covered with scales. Over 10,000 Azaleas, plants have been registered. They have a wide variety of habits, sizes, color and blooming time.


Azalea is treated as analgesic, anaesthetic and sedative. The flower symbolizes love and gentleness making it perfect to give to a loved one for any occasion. It is a symbol of elegance and love.
