Happy 18th National Rice Day

Today, the day where we Nepali celebrate our annual festival National Paddy Day called as "Rastriya Dhan Ropai Diwas". Nepal is the first country to celebrate Rice Day after the UN declared 2004 as the International Year of Rice. It is celebrated on 15th of Asadh of every year in Nepal according to Nepali calender.

This special day is celebrated by planting paddy seedlings regarded as the start of paddy cultivation. Farmers gathered in their fields to plant paddy seedlings and relished curd and beaten rice deliacy. They splashed mud at each other and sang folk songs that glorified agriculture. This day is also known as "Dahi-cheura Day".

According to scientific reason, it is good to eat Dahi-cheura on this special day because the body gets energy from this food. It carries nutritional value as it helps to regenerate tired and worn out farmers. As farmers spend all day in dirt and mud, having Dahi-cheura increases ones nutrition. It helps farmers against the germs found in the mud.

Among many celebrations in Nepali Culture, It is one of the important festival that symbolizes agricultural practices and reflects the rice farming and reciprocal labour use techniques, mutual understanding and cultural demonstrations through various activities.
